Cancellation Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
1. Project Termination
At Onion, we understand that project requirements and business priorities can shift. Clients may request to cancel their engagement for website development or software engineering services subject to the terms outlined below.
2. Cancellation Notice
To initiate a cancellation, a written notice must be submitted to your assigned project lead or via our official billing channel. The cancellation becomes effective immediately upon receipt, but financial obligations for work already performed will remain.
3. Phase-Specific Terms
- Discovery & Strategy: Cancellations during this phase will be billed for all hours logged or a flat fee of 50% of the phase total, whichever is higher, to cover initial research and architectural planning.
- Active Development: If a project is cancelled after development has commenced, the initial deposit is forfeited. The client is liable for payment of the current milestone and all custom code or assets produced up to the termination date.
- Post-Launch Support: Monthly maintenance or support contracts require a 30-day notice for cancellation.
4. Intellectual Property
Upon cancellation and full payment of outstanding invoices, the client retains ownership of any completed and paid-for work. Onion retains ownership of any proprietary frameworks, internal tools, or unpurchased concepts developed during the project.
